MESSAGE FROM DIANA
After
literally MONTHS of trying to rework my site and change over my list
server, I'm finally able to report that I'm well on my way there.
The
FashionForRealWomen.com website has a new look,
http://www.fashionforrealwomen.com
and the list
switch-over is under way. If you haven't already received a request
to confirm your subscription, you will over the next few days, so be
on the lookout for that email. You'll need to respond to it to keep
receiving this ezine.
So now that
we've gotten the paperwork out of the way, what part of your image
are we focusing on this week? Finding clothes that fit you properly.
It's one of the hallmarks of a well-dressed woman.
Enjoy!

FEATURED ARTICLE:
The
Importance of Good Fit
Most women I
know obsess over the fit of precisely two items in their wardrobes:
jeans and swimsuits. They'll try on dozens of each, often leaving the
store empty-handed. If it doesn't make them look fabulous, they
reason, they don't want it.
So why then do
these same women walk around the rest of the time in clothes that are
often too big, too small, too short, or too long? I have no idea. Do
their bodies only deserve to look good when they either don denim or
strut across the sand like a Bay Watch babe?
Of course not!
And neither
does yours.
So don't make
the mistake in assuming that "close enough" gets the job
done. It doesn't. All you need to do to confirm this is to look
around the next time you're in a crowd. Those few who take the time
to get a proper fit stand out like a sore thumb.
So what can
YOU do to ensure that your clothes fit properly before you buy them
and put them into circulation in your wardrobe? Here are a few easy guidelines:
1. Don't
Obsess Over Size
Size does NOT
matter when it comes to clothes. Since there are no standard sizes in
the clothing industry, use size indicator as a guideline ONLY. If you
normally wear a size 10, for example, also grab an 8 and a 12 before
you head to the dressing room to see if the manufacturer runs large,
small, or true to size. Don't assume that because one size doesn't
fit properly, none of them will.
2. Buy
Separates, Not One Piece Outfits
If you have a
lot of trouble finding dresses that fit because your hips are bigger
than your bust (A frame) or your bust is bigger than your hips (V
frame), skip the dress in favor of separates in different sizes
unless you plan to have the garment altered. Otherwise, it will look
sloppy on the smaller part of your body.
3. Don't
Settle For What's At The Mall
If you have a
hard time finding clothes that fit properly because you're petite,
tall, plus size, pregnant, or whatever, remember that you don't have
to settle for what's available to you locally. Hit the Web to find a
broad selection of apparel to meet your needs. You can find a few
really good places to look right here:

4. Spring
For Alterations
If your body
simply defies the shape of regular ready-to-wear apparel, allow for
alteration expense in your clothing budget and find a really good
seamstress. She'll be able to fix those sleeves, cut down that bodice
and move those buttons as necessary. Most high-income and image savvy
women know the importance of a good seamstress. Do you?
5. Have
Clothes Custom Made
Custom-made
clothes don't have to be expensive. In fact, many women find that
it's cheaper to have something made from scratch for them than to buy
good quality ready-to-wear apparel and have it altered to fit. If
finding clothes that fit properly is a challenge for you, or if you
can't find clothes that meet your specific needs (like having a lot
of pockets because you don't like to carry a handbag), check into
having some pieces custom made for you. You may be surprised at how
reasonably priced it can be.
Proper fit is
essential to looking pulled together. If you have a body that's hard
to fit, don't just settle for what you can find at the mall. Shop
online, have clothes altered, or even have items custom-made.
Remember:
the only thing better than wearing good-looking clothes is wearing
good-looking clothes that look good on you. Insist on proper
fit. And not just in your jeans and swimwear.
