MESSAGE FROM DIANA
Do you like
fashion history and celebrity fashion? Then here's a fun one for you:
Paul Poiret
[pwah-rey] was a French designer of the early 1900's who was
instrumental in changing women's fashions from the strict corsets of
the 19th Century to more comfortable, free-flowing styles. Women
around the world adored him.
The
Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has decided to remember Monsieur
Poiret with a lavish exhibit that runs now through August 5th. They
opened the exhibit with the Annual Costume Institute gala this past
Monday, which was attended by tons of celebrities and fashion insiders.
You can read
all about the party on Style.com:

You can learn
more about the exhibit at this link, if you're planning a trip to the
Big Apple this summer:

Back in my
little corner of the world, in answer to the many skin care and
makeup questions I've been getting of late, I've decided to update an
ebook I released several years ago called "Head-to-Toe
Beauty" that covers many of these questions. I think I pulled it
to revise it around the same time my son was born (he's now 4), and
life being what it is, the revisions never happened.
Until now,
that is. I've updated the materials extensively, adding plenty of
resources, and I think you'll enjoy it. Everything should be ready
next week, so keep an eye out for that email.
So what's on
tap for today's article?
Great gifts to
give (and get!) on Mother's Day.
Enjoy!
Diana

Fashionable
Mother's Day Gifts
Three a.m.
feedings. Temper tantrums while shopping. Last-minute costumes.
Raging hormones. After school activities. The parental ATM.
Given
everything moms go through on an average day, perhaps a little
"special something" would be appropriate for the mothers in
your life this Mother's Day. Instead of opting for the "same old
things" like candy or flowers, use the holiday to give great,
rejuvenating gifts so your mom can continue to give her best. Don't
think of it as an extravagance; consider it a reward for a hard job
well done.
Here are some ideas:
1. A Spa Day
How about a
gift certificate for a facial, massage, manicure, or pedicure? It's
probably something she wouldn't buy for herself and would be a
welcome, relaxing treat.

2. A New 'Do
Want to give
her a new look without spending a lot? Pay for a new hairstyle that
maximizes her best features. You can start your search here:
http://hairstyles.hairboutique.com/
3. Makeup Lessons
Need
professional help? Let a makeup artist teach your mother how to
highlight and contour so she can put her best face forward every day.
Available at
better salons worldwide.
4. An Image Consultation
Get a pro to
help your mom create a wardrobe that will take her anywhere she wants
to go.

5. New Clothes
Here's an easy
way to add to your mom's wardrobe: give a gift certificate to her
favorite apparel store or mail order catalog.
http://www.giftcertificates.com
6. New Accessories
Add to your
mother's accessories wardrobe with a beautiful silk scarf, a new
handbag, or an array of hosiery.

7. Jewelry
Whoever said,
"The best things come in small packages," must have loved
jewelry. Why not get your mom something in a small box or buy a gift
certificate so she can choose her own?

8. Perfume
Indulge in a
decadent fragrance that will make mom think of you every time she
wears it.
http://www.sephora.com
9. Tickets
Airplane
tickets, theatre tickets, opening game tickets - give your mom a
ticket to her favorite place or pastime and watch her smile from ear
to ear.
http://www.ticketmaster.com
10. A Good Book
When was the
last time mom curled up with a good book, preferably something
substantive, from one of your favorite authors (ah-hem!)? Perhaps she
might enjoy one of these:

Come to think
if it, what woman WOULDN'T want any of these things, whether she's a
mother or not? Taking time to recharge your batteries isn't a luxury
- it's a necessity. Just as your house, car, and office all function
more effectively after a sprucing up, so too will your mom have a
better outlook once she gets a little R & R.
And if YOU'RE
a mom in need of a little R&R, print out this list and put it on
your fridge so your husband and kids can see it. It just may give
them a few ideas of what you'd like this year. After all, you work
hard - you deserve it!
Happy Mother's Day!
